Code of Conduct
We want the EBTA conference to be a welcoming event, where people meet in a friendly environment and engage in civil discussion and debate. Accordingly, we expect all participants to show respect and courtesy to other participants throughout the conference.
To make clear what is expected, we have written and are publishing this Code of Conduct.
In Short
- EBTA Conference 2019 is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability or physical appearance. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.
- When disagreements arise in discussions, panels and other sessions, arguments should be put forth in a civil and professional manner. Insults and attacks on the other parties in the discussion are not appropriate and will not be tolerated.
- Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate in any part of the conference, including sessions, social events and sponsor displays.
- Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund, at the discretion of the conference organizers.
Longer Version
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability or physical appearance; display of sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation, stalking or following of participants; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.
If a conference participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.
If you are being harassed or have any other concerns, feel free to contact a member of the conference staff. We will work with you to decide on any steps to be taken. If you wish, we can put you in touch with security staff or help you to contact local law enforcement. We value your attendance and want you to feel safe for the duration of the conference.
This Code of Conduct is not exhaustive. Rather than providing a detailed book of rules, we want to draw on the atmosphere of cooperation that is characteristic of our solution-focused community. While we expect this document to be honored by all participants, we also hope that you will approach it in that spirit, continuing as always to treat fellow community members with respect.
